Pond Life is a British
adult animated series with 2 seasons released in 1996 and 2000. It
was made by the talented Candy Guard. It's one of my favorite shows.
The main character, Dolly Pond, is an anxiety ridden, self-centered,
neurotic adult. She reminds me of myself in a lot of ways. Here's a
description of Dolly from the shows proposal, found on
Candy Guards Instagram: "Dolly Pond is 25 and expects a lot from life. She finds hers immensely disappointing. She thinks it should be more like those people in the Sunday Colour Supplements. She is alternately unemployed or temping, single, poor, and generally dissatisfied. And her attempts to get her life in order are constantly complicated by the sheer range of choice, her neurotic personality, and her stagnant environment... ...A person of extremes, Dolly is alternately a nervous jelly legs and a bad-tempered devil woman. She is ambitious but lazy, desperate but proud. She goes to exercise class one night and drinks to excess the next. She religiously saves all her newspapers and plastic bottles for recycling, then in an existentialist moment flings them all in the bin. She is either giving herself a hard time for her total inadequacy or blaming the rest of the world and her menstrual cycle for all that is lacking in her life. The bigger she thinks, the less she does and the more she worries, so that the day-to-day decisions and relationships faced by us all seem life-threateningly important and complicated." I discovered this show back in 2021. Candy had made an animated short called "Wishful Thinking" that was featured in an episode of Liquid Television in the early 90's. I enjoyed it a lot, so I did some research and came across Pond Life. Check out Wishful Thinking: |
